Drug Task Force
The city / county drug task force was assembled in 1988. The task
force is a combined effort between the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office
and the Le Mars Police Department. Members of the task force routinely
assist and cooperate with several area jurisdictions and other task
forces.
The mission of the task force is to focus primarily on identifying and
investigating drug dealers and narcotics violations. The task force has
made a significant impact on the area illicit drug market. The task
force will continue to make an impact in the future as well. Members of
the task force continually receive specialized training and equipment to
enhance these investigations.
Ninety-nine percent of the hours spent on task force investigations are
away from the officers normal hours. A lot of successful investigations
result from tips received from the public.
National Night Out
National night out, which is sponsored by the National Association of
Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Le Mars police department,
involves over 9,400 communities from all 50 states, us territories,
Canadian cities and military bases around the world.
National Night Out is designed to: (1) heighten crime and drug
prevention awareness; (2)Generate support for, and participation in,
local anti crime efforts; (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and
police-community partnerships; and (4) send a message to criminals
letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out is the nation's largest annual crime prevention
event. It is an extraordinary way to build neighborhood unity and
strengthen police community partnerships. The Le Mars police department
would like to invite residents to host a block party in their
neighborhood each year. These block parties are an excellent opportunity
for residents of the neighborhood to meet and get to know each other.
