On 03-01-2011 around 2252 hours, a Le Mars Officer stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing his seatbelt. The driver, Jeremy Devall, age 31 of Le Mars, was found to be driving while barred and operating while intoxicated. He was arrested and taken to jail. He was charged with driving while barred and OWI 4th offense, a class D felony.


On Thursday, 03-03-2011 around 2045 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 10 blk of 2nd Ave NE.

Linda Hemmelrick, age 51 of Le Mars, was southbound on 2nd Ave NE in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. Katherine Pratt, age 16 of Le Mars, was backing to the west out of a parking stall in a 2005 Chevy Impala. In doing so, Pratt failed to see Hemmelrick’s vehicle and the rear of Pratt’s vehicle struck the front of Hemmelrick’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On 03-05-2011 around 0725 hours, Zachery Port, age 19, was arrested on a warrant issued out of Plymouth County for probation violation. Bond was $1000.00. He was taken to the Plymouth County Jail.

On 03-06-2011 around 0240 hours, while on routine patrol, an officer observed a subject lying in the grass at 110 6th St NE. He was identified as Steven Clyde Simington, age 49 of Cherokee. Mr. Simington was arrested for public intoxication and jailed.


On Monday, 03-07-2011 around 1515 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 6th St and 4th Ave SW.

Dustin Michael rens, age 29 of Le Mars, was eastbound on 6th St SW in a 2001 Chevy Silverado. Scott Kneip, age 41 of Le Mars, was northbound on 4th Ave SW in a 2008 International dump truck, which is owned by the City of Le Mars. Arens failed to see City’s vehicle, and, as a result, the front of the dump truck struck the right rear of Arens’ vehicle.

There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Arens’ vehicle sustained approximately $5000 damage. There was no damage to the dump truck.

Arens was cited for Fail to Yield to Vehicle on Right.


On Tuesday, 03-08-2011 around 1445 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 200 blk of Plymouth St NE.

Amber Rae Sanow, age 27 of Le Mars, was eastbound on Plymouth St east in a 1988 Ford Ranger. A witness reported that Sanow began to slump over the wheel, at which time she drove off the roadway and came to a rest in a row of hedges on the north side of the road.

Damage to the Sanow vehicle was less than $1500.

A medical condition may have been a factor in the accident.

Sanow was cited for Fail to Maintain Control.


On 03-08-2011 around 2345 hours, officers received information that Jesse Jennings, age 30, was at 415 1st St NW in violation of a protection order. He was located at that residence in the company of the protected party. Jennings was taken into custody and booked into the Plymouth County Jail on a charge of violating a no contact order, a simple misdemeanor.


On 03-09-2011 around 1635 hours, Dustin Suppi, age 24 of Le Mars, was observed operating a motor vehicle. Officers were aware that Dustin was suspended in Iowa. He was stopped in the Wal-Mart parking lot and cited into court on a charge of driving while suspended for nonpayment of Iowa fine.


On 03-09-2011, Le Mars Officers responded to an accident in the 1100 blk of 1st Ave SE. As a result, one of the driver’s, Felicia Muniz, age 35 of Le Mars, was found to be operating a motor vehicle while suspended. She was cited into court on that charge and given a court date.


On Wednesday, 03-09-2011 around 0915 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 100 blk of 11th St SE.

Felicia Margaret Muniz, age 35 of Le Mars, had backed out of a parking stall onto 11th St SE in a 1998 Ford Windstar mini-van and was going to proceed eastbound. John Fay Bridgford, age 38 of Le Mars, was backing out of a parking stall to the south on the opposite side of the roadway in a 2009 Kia Spectra and had failed to see Muniz’s vehicle. As a result, the left rear of Bridgford’s vehicle struck the left front of Muniz’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Muniz’s vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage. Bridgford’s vehicle sustained approximately $500 damage.

Muniz was cited for Driving While License Suspended and No Insurance. Bridgford was cited for Unsafe Backing on Highway.


On 03-11-2011 around 1000 hours, Austin Nelson, age 17 of Le Mars, was cited into juvenile court for burglary 3rd from a vehicle and tampering with a witness reference an incident that occurred on February 17th where speakers and subwoofers were stolen from a vehicle.


On Saturday, 03-12-2011 around 1930 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 1000 blk of 18th St SW.

Kendrick Brian Rowe, age 17 of Le Mars, was westbound on 18th St SW in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Rowe had been distracted by his phone falling onto the floor of his vehicle at which time Rowe’s vehicle struck a road barricade and proceeded over a railroad rail, which was lying in the roadway.

There were no injuries and the driver was wearing his seatbelt.

Rowe’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage.

Railroad personnel was not providing traffic control at the time of the accident due to being called away for a medical emergency.


On 03-12-2011 around 0040 minutes, a vehicle was stopped for having expired plates. The driver, Travis Deiterman, age 25 of Merrill, was found to be operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was taken to the Plymouth County Jail and booked on a charge of OWI 2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.


On 03-12-2011 around 0139 hours, a vehicle driven by Kristen Christoffer, age 22 of Spencer, was stopped at 6th St and 8th Ave SW for doing a poor job of driving. Christoffer was taken to the Plymouth County LEC for processing. After sobriety testing, she was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a drug. She was held until she could see a judge or post bond. The Le Mars Police Department was assisted by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.


On 03-13-2011 around 1930 hours, Logan Godinez, age 22 of Le Mars, was arrested on a warrant issued out of Plymouth County. The original charges were for simple assault and domestic assault. He was held until he could see the judge.


On Monday, 03-14-2011 around 1530 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 5th St and 2nd Ave SW.

Christopher Michael Slothower, age 17 of Merrill, was westbound on 5th St SW in a 2007 Dodge CXT. Eric Robert Russell, age 23 of Le Mars, was southbound on 2nd Ave SW in a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time and the front of Russell’s vehicle struck the right front of Slothower’s vehicle.

Slothower reported possible injuries and both drivers wear wearing their seatbelts.

Slothower’s vehicle sustained approximately $4000 damage. Russell’s vehicle sustained approximately $5000 damage.


On Tuesday, 03-15-2011 around 1612 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 12th St and 4th Ave SE.

Lynette Kay Conley, age 42 of Marcus, was stopped on 12th St SE, facing east, waiting to make a left turn onto 4th Ave SE in a 1996 Chevy Suburban. Kendra Ann Klein, age 23 of Remsen was also eastbound on 12th St SE in a 2002 GMC Envoy. Klein failed to see that Conley’s vehicle was stopped, and, as a result, the front end of Klein’s vehicle struck the rear end of Conley’s vehicle.

Conley received non-incapacitating injuries and was transferred to Floyd Valley Hospital by Le Mars Ambulance. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Conley’s vehicle sustained approximately $1000 damage. Klein’s vehicle sustained approximately $4000 damage.

Klein was cited for Following Too Closely.


On 03-14-2011 around 1910 hours, a Le Mars Officer observed Michael Weiler, age 41 of Le Mars, operating a motor vehicle in the area of 7th Ave SE and Hillcrest Dr. The officer was aware that Weiler did not have a valid driver’s license. He was stopped and subsequently jailed for driving while barred. At the jail, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, to wit, methamphetamine. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and held.


On 03-14-2011 around 1430 hours, Tyler Hoffman, age 13 of le Mars, was cited into juvenile court for an assault that occurred at the Le Mars Middle School.


On Wednesday, 03-16-2011 around 1020 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 3rd Ave and Plymouth St E.

Arlie Archie Pierson, age 89 of Le Mars, was southbound on 3rd Ave SE and had stopped for the stop sign in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. James Louis Ortmann, age 78 of Le Mars, was eastbound on Plymouth St in a 1997 Dodge pickup. As Pierson’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign to cross Plymouth St, Pierson failed to yield to Ortmann’s vehicle. As a result, the front of Ortmann’s vehicle struck the right rear of Pierson’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Pierson’s vehicle sustained approximately $3000 damage. Ortmann’s vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage.

Pierson was cited for Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way.


On Thursday, 03-17-2011 around 1408 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of Central Ave and 3rd St S.

Gail Jean Jones, age 60 of Le Mars, was northbound on Central Ave in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Emil Richard Grosenheider, age 93 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on 3rd St facing east in a 1996 Ford Contour. As Grosenheider’s vehicle proceeded eastbound from the stop sign, Grosenheider failed to see Jones’ vehicle in the roadway. As a result, the front of Jones’ vehicle struck the right side of Grosenheider’s vehicle.

Jones reported possible injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Jones’ vehicle sustained approximately $5000 damage and was towed by Langel’s Body Shop. Grosenheider’s vehicle sustained approximately $3000 damage and was towed by Mayrose Body Shop.

Grosenheider was cited for Fail to Yield From Stop Sign.


On Thursday, 03-17-2011 around 1730 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on the 116 Exit ramp off of Hwy 75.

Janyce Joan Schietzelt, age 70 of Le Mars, was northbound on the 116 Exit and had stopped behind another vehicle in a 2006 Dodge Caravan. James Eugene Gulbronson, age 38 of Sioux City, was also northbound on the 116 Exit and directly behind Schietzelt’s vehicle in a 2007 Chevy Silverado. As the vehicle in front of Schietzelt’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign, Schietzelt drove forward and stopped again at which time, Gulbronson failed to see that Schietzelt’s vehicle had stopped. As a result, the front of Gulbronson’s vehicle struck the rear of Schietzelt’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Each vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage.


On Thursday, 03-17-2011 around 1833 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 3rd Ave and 7th St SE.

Susan Catherine Becker, age 56 of Le Mars, was northbound on 3rd Ave SE in a 2000 Chevy Impala. Emma Rose Gorden, age 17 of Le Mars, was westbound on 7th St SE in a 2001 Buick LeSabre. Becker failed to yield to Gorden’s vehicle, and, as a result, the left front of Gorden’s vehicle struck the right front of Becker’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Becker’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Gorden’s vehicle sustained approximately $200 damage.

Becker was cited for Fail To Yield To Vehicle On Right.


On Friday, 03-18-2011 around 1123 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to a car vs. pedestrian accident that occurred at the intersection of Central Ave and Plymouth St E.

James Arles Bogenrief, age 90 of Merrill, was southbound on Central Ave approaching the Plymouth St intersection in a 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette mini-van. Bogenrief had properly signaled to turn left onto Plymouth St and entered the intersection during his green light. Bogenrief failed to see Douglas Blackmore, age 54 of Le Mars, who was crossing Plymouth St northbound in the crosswalk, at which time Bogenrief struck Blackmore with his mini-van.

Blackmore received non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Floyd Valley Hospital by Le Mars Ambulance.

Bogenrief was cited for Fail to Yield to Pedestrian Within Intersection.


On Friday, 03-18-2011 around 1450 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred near the intersection of 12th St and 2nd Ave SE.

Cheri Marie Punt, age 25 of Le Mars, was stopped in traffic eastbound on 12th St SE in a 1997 Saturn. Ashley Marie Rolfes, age 17 of Le Mars, was also eastbound on 12th St SE in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and directly behind Punt’s vehicle. Rolfes failed to see Punt’s vehicle was stopped, and, as a result, the front of Rolfes’ vehicle struck the rear of Punt’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Punt’s vehicle sustained approximately $1000 damage. Rolfes’ vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage.

Punt was cited for No Insurance-Accident Related. Rolfes was cited for Failure to Stop Within the Assured Clear Distance.

On Friday, 03-18-2011 around 1352 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 10 blk of Central Ave SE.

David Shaver, age 50 of Le Mars, was backing from a parking spot in front of City Hall in a 2008 GMC pickup and failed to see Cynthia Rose Price, age 47 of Le Mars, pulling into the First National Bank drive-thru in a 1996 Buick. As a result, the rear passenger side bumper of Shaver’s vehicle struck the driver’s side rear quarter of Price’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On Saturday, 03-19-2011 around 0150 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of a hit and run accident in the 500 blk of Countryside Dr.

Kayla Jurgensen, age 27 of Le Mars, had her 1997 Chevy Lumina properly parked facing east on Countryside Dr. Sometime between the hours of 2350 on March 18th and 0130 on March 19th, an unknown white vehicle struck Jurgensen’s vehicle causing damage to the front driver’s side quarter panel and driver’s side door then left the scene.

There were no witnesses or suspects at this time.

Damage was less than $1500.

On 03-20-2011 around 0315 hours, a Le Mars Officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. As a result, the driver, Jeremy Weiler, age 30 of Le Mars, was found to be intoxicated. He was taken to the Plymouth County Jail and charged with OWI 4th offense, a class D felony. He was also cited with open container of alcohol. He was held until he could see the judge or post bond.

On 03-20-2011 around 0115 hours, a vehicle was stopped for dark tinted windows. The driver, Michael Fenner, age 46 of rural route Le Mars, was found to be intoxicated. He was taken to the Plymouth County Jail and charged with OWI 1st offense, a serious misdemeanor.

On 03-21-2011 around 1545 hours, a citizen reported an intoxicated male subject in the area of Dairy Queen. Officers arrived and found John Haraburda, age 48 of Le Mars stumbling and intoxicated. He was arrested and transported to the Plymouth County Jail. He was charged with public intoxication 4th offense.


On Monday, 03-21-2011 around 1310 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of a vehicle that struck a residence in the 100 blk of 6th Ave NE.

Margaret Posthuma, age 97 of Le Mars, had pulled into the driveway at 135 6th Ave NE to turn her vehicle around which is a 2002 Chevy Impala. Somehow, Posthuma’s vehicle struck the brick corner of the residence causing damage to the front left quarter panel and headlight. The residence did not sustain any damage other than paint transfer and some small chips to the bricks.

Damage was less than $1500.


On Monday, 03-21-2011 around 1350 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 3rd St SW and 5th Ave SW.

Patrick D. Smith, age 44 of Papillion, NE had just pulled out of the Le Mars Truck Stop parking lot onto 3rd St SW in a 2007 Freightliner tractor/trailer and had stopped at the stop sign. Smith then waited for all traffic to clear so he could make the wide turn onto 5th Ave. As Smith was making the turn, he was unable to clear the stop sign on 3rd St, which is owned by the City of Le Mars, and his trailer struck the stop sign knocking it to the ground.

Damage was less than $1500.

On 03-21-2011 around 0147 hours, a Le Mars Officer stopped vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver, Jason Glen Dreckman, age 35 of Le Mars, was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested and jailed on a charge of OWI 2nd offense and open container. He was given warnings for the equipment violation and for speeding.

On 03-23-2011 around 1302 hours, Officers were called to the area of Le Mars Head Start where Cody Mulder, age 28 of Hospers, was located and arrested on several outstanding warrants in Plymouth County and Sioux County. He was taken to the Plymouth County Jail.


On Friday, 03-25-2011 around 0805 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on 8th St SW near the intersection of 3rd Ave and 8th St SW.

William Jackes, age 63 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on 8th St SW facing west in a 2005 Bluebird school bus, which is owned by the Le Mars Community School District. Lukas Eugene Miller, age 16 of Le Mars, was also westbound on 8th St in a 1996 Chevy Cavalier behind Jackes’ vehicle. Due to the icy conditions of the roadway, Miller lost control of his vehicle and was unable to stop. The front of Miller’s vehicle struck the rear of Jackes’ vehicle.

There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Miller’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. There was no damage to the school bus.


On Friday, 03-25-2011 around 0818 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on 8th St SW near the intersection of 3rd Ave and 8th St SW.

Heidi Louise Schleis, age 38 of Le Mars, was stopped facing westbound on 8th St SW in a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van. Bailey James Schmidt, age 17 of Le Mars, was also westbound on 8th St in a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix. Schmidt was unable to stop in time behind Schleis’ vehicle due to the snow and ice covered roadway, and, as a result, the front of Schmidt’s vehicle struck the rear of Schleis’ vehicle.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On Friday, 03-25-2011 around 0827 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 200 blk of 8th St SW.

Rebecca Ann Stinton, age 18 of Le Mars, was westbound on 8th St SW in a 1997 Ford Taurus. Stinton lost control of her vehicle on the ice-covered roadway as she tried to slow down for a stopping car in front of her. Stinton’s vehicle slid to the right side of the roadway and struck a 1993 Chevy Cavalier, which was properly parked and owned by Karlene Ann Singer of Le Mars.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On Friday, 03-25-2011 around 0827 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 200 blk of 8th St SW.

Joseph Michael Meis, age 18 of Le Mars, was westbound on 8th St SW in a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup. As Meis started to stop for a vehicle in front of him, he lost control on the ice-covered roadway and slid into a 2001 Chevy Impala, which was properly parked and owned by Susan Kay Irwin of Le Mars.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On Friday, 03-25-2011 around 1930 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of an accident that occurred in the 1000 blk of 3rd Ave SE.

Christine Elisabeth Lewis, age 19 of Kingsley, reported that she was backing out of a parking stall toward the southwest from the east side of 3rd Ave. Jennifer Scott, age 42 of Sioux City, was southbound on 3rd Ave in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. Lewis stated that as she was backing, the driver’s side rear of her vehicle struck the driver’s side rear door and quarter panel on Scott’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On 03-26-2011 around 0315 hours, Christopher Lewis, age 21 of Le Mars, was arrested in the 1100 blk of 4th Ave SE for public intoxication. Officers were checking on a report of several subjects in the area trying to enter Centennial Hall and a parked pickup. Lewis was jailed.


On 03-26-2011 around 1730 hours, Le Mars Officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart for two female shoplifters. Jessica Droullard-Jacobsen, age 18 of Meriden, and Meghan Siefken, age 17 of Cherokee, were arrested for shoplifting in the 5th degree. Jessica was cited into court with a court date and released. Meghan was issued a juvenile referral and also released.


On 03-26-2011 around 0023 minutes, Dena Cochran, age 52 of Le Mars, and Heather Cochran, age 23 of Le Mars, were arrested in the parking lot at HyVee. Le Mars Police had received a complaint that both individuals were intoxicated. Officers did arrest both females for public intoxication and transported them to the jail. Heather Cochran was also found to be in possession of marijuana and was also charged with that offense. Both were jailed.


On Sunday, 03-27-2011 around 1333 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Goodwill parking lot.

Roger Allen King of Quimby, IA had his 2004 Chevy Impala properly parked in a parking spot on the north side of the building. Patricia Lee Wurth, age 68 of Remsen, was backing out of a parking stall to the north in a 2002 Dodge Caravan. In doing so, Wurth neglected to turn her vehicle while proceeding backwards, and, as a result, the left rear bumper of Wurth’s vehicle struck the left rear bumper of King’s vehicle.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On Monday, 03-28-2011 around 1050 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Good Samaritan Society parking lot.

Jerry A. Gilbreath, age 54 of South Sioux City, NE, was backing out of a parking stall in a 1996 Mercury van when he failed to see Candyce Sue Hurley’s, age 48 of Paullina, vehicle attempting to park in the stall next to his vehicle. As a result, the rear bumper of Gilbreath’s vehicle struck the rear quarter panel of Hurley’s 2003 Oldsmobile Alero.

There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.


On 03-28-2011 around 2300 hours, Sara Koopman, age 26 of Le Mars, was arrested for domestic assault. The arrest followed an investigation that had occurred the previous evening. She was jailed.


On 03-29-2011 around 1210 hours, a vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited into court for driving while suspended. The suspended person was Melody Ropte, age 33of Le Mars. She is suspended for failure to refile SR 22 insurance.
