On Saturday, 12-3-2011 around 1510 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred near the intersection of 5th Ave and 4th St NW. Cayla Christine Herbst, age 18 of Le Mars, was northbound on 5th Ave NW in a 2002 Saturn L-200. Herbst’s vehicle slowed to make a right hand turn onto 4th St NW, but due to the snow and ice covered roadway, the vehicle slid into the intersection and continued sliding up an over the curb, at which time, the vehicle struck a fire hydrant and knocked down a stop sign, which is owned by the City of Le Mars. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Sunday, 12-4-2011 around 1804 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of Business Hwy 75 and Red Fox Crossing. Ricki Shelby Becker, age 17 of South Sioux City, NE was southbound on Business Hwy 75 in a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero and was approaching Red Fox Crossing. Tyler Lee Douvia, age 21 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on Red Fox Crossing facing east in a 2000 Chevy Silverado. As Douvia’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign onto the highway, Douvia failed to see Becker’s vehicle. As a result, the front of Douvia’s vehicle struck the right rear of Becker’s vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Becker’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Douvia’s vehicle sustained approximately $200 damage. Douvia was cited for Fail to Obey Traffic Control Device and No Insurance.
On 12-04-2011 around 1400 hours, Le Mars Officers were called to the Middle School to take an assault complaint. It was determined that Tiana Martinez, age 13 of Le Mars, had assaulted another female student causing minor injuries. She was cited into juvenile court for assault and released to her parent.
On 12-05-2011 at approximately 1530 hours, Officers were called to the north side of Clark School in regards to a theft complaint. After investigating the situation, Ray Seaton, age 59 of Le Mars, was charged with operating without owner’s consent. He was cited into court.
On 12-06-2011 around 1415 hours, David Kelly, 200 1st Ave SW, reported that unknown subject(s) had broken out several windows on a 1968 GMC motorhome belonging to him that was parked behind his residence along the railroad tracks. Estimated damage is $1000.00.
On 12-07-2011 around 0045 minutes, Officers were called to Hugo’s Bar for a fight. As a result, it was determined that Tyler Sitzmann, age 23 of Le Mars, had assaulted another subject at the bar causing injury. Sitzmann was arrested for serious assault and taken to the Plymouth County Jail.
On 12-07-2011, Le Mars Police filed charges in a sexual abuse investigation involving a 15 year old female. Adam Lee McKee, age 21 of Le Mars, was charged with sexual abuse in the 3rd degree, a class C felony, and with supplying alcohol to a person under the age of 21. On 12-07-2011 around 1010 hours, he was jailed on those charges. Also charged in the incident was David Allen Kelly, age 61 of Le Mars, for supplying alcohol to a person under the age of 21. He was cited into court.
On Wednesday, 12-7-2011 around 1833 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 4th Ave and 12th St SE. Shawn Clifford Vacura, age 40 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on 4th Ave SE facing southbound in a 2011 Toyota passenger car. Olivia Marie Swindell, age 17 of Le Mars was southbound on 4th Ave SE in a 1987 Buick Electra and was unable to stop before striking Vacura’s vehicle. As a result, the front of Swindell’s vehicle struck the rear of Vacura’s vehicle. There were no injuries. Vacura’s vehicle sustained approximately $800 damage. Swindell’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Swindell was cited for Fail to Stop Within Assured Clear Distance.
On Thursday, 12-8-2011 around 0810 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Le Mars Truck Stop parking lot. Billy James Farris, age 64 of Palestine, TX was driving out of a parking spot in a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, which is owned by Kevin Frisby Trucking, and made a right hand turn. In doing so, the right rear of the trailer struck the left front of a 2005 Volvo semi, which was properly parked and is owned by Transport Service Co. out of Oak Brook, IL. There were no injuries. The trailer owned by Kevin Frisby Trucking sustained approximately $50 damage. The semi owned by Transport Service Co. sustained approximately $4000 damage.
On 12-09-2011 around 2230 hours, Officers were dispatched to the 100 blk of Plymouth St E for a fight in progress. After an investigation, Tom Mullally, age 31, and his brother, Tim Mullally, age 37, were arrested and booked into jail on a charge of disorderly conduct.
On 12-09-2011 around 1730 hours, Officers had contact with Jason Pinkerton, age 32 of Le Mars. It was learned there was an arrest warrant for Jason out of Plymouth County for failure to appear. The original charge was interference with official acts. He was jailed on the warrant. Bond was $2000.00.
On Friday, 12-09-2011 around 0750 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of Central Ave and 4th St South. Charles Justin Driggs, age 73 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on Central Ave facing south in a 2003 Dodge Dakota. Randi Janel Loehr, age 33 of Le Mars, was westbound on 4th St through the intersection in a 2006 Dodge Charger. Driggs failed to see Loehr’s vehicle in the intersection, and as he made a right turn onto 4th St, the left front of Driggs’ vehicle struck the right rear of Loehr’s vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Driggs’ vehicle sustained approximately $500 damage. Loehr’s vehicle sustained approximately $1000 damage. Driggs was cited for Fail to Obey Stop or Yield Sign.
On Saturday, 12-10-2011 around 1440 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to a hit and run accident that occurred in the Wal-Mart parking lot. A 1998 Chevy Lumina, which is owned by Wade Heemskerk of Sheldon, IA, was properly parked in the parking lot. It appears that the vehicle, which was parked to the left of Heemskerk’s vehicle, backed from its parking stall and turned the steering wheel so that the right front of the unknown vehicle struck the driver’s door of Heemskerk’s vehicle causing damage. The unknown vehicle then left the scene. There were no witnesses and damage was less than $1500.
On Sunday, 12-11-2011 around 1003 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 4th St and 6th Ave SW. Eldon Burrell Bray, age 64 of Le Mars, was eastbound on 4th St SW in a 2010 Ford pickup and approaching the intersection with 6th Ave SW. Timothy James DeLarm, age 49 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on 6th Ave facing south in a 2000 Chevy van. As DeLarm’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign, DeLarm failed to see Bray’s vehicle in the intersection. As a result, the front of DeLarm’s vehicle struck the left side of Bray’s vehicle. Bray reported possible injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Bray’s vehicle sustained approximately $8000 damage. DeLarm’s vehicle sustained approximately $2500 damage. DeLarm was cited for Fail to Obey Stop or Yield Sign.
On 12-13-2012 at approximately 2230 hours, Stephanie Franks, age 20 of Le Mars, was arrested on a warrant for willful injury in regards to a stabbing that had occurred on November 20, 2011.
On Thursday, 12-15-2011 around 0800 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of a residence that had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 8th St and 3rd Ave SW. Upon investigating this incident, officers found that Brandon Robert Coover, age 21 of Le Mars, had been southbound on 3rd Ave SW in a 2006 Jeep Liberty. As he was making a left hand turn onto 8th St, Coover’s vehicle struck the southeast curb and then left the roadway, striking a stop sign and damaging the sidewalk. Coover’s vehicle continued thru a wooden rail fence and rock garden before striking a pillar on the front of the residence at 810 3rd Ave SW. He then proceeded southbound thru the yard and again went thru the wooden rail fence leaving the scene. Coover received non-incapacitating injuries. Coover’s vehicle sustained approximately $4500 damage. The stop sign, which is owned by the City of Le Mars, sustained approximately $150 damage. The residence at 810 3rd Ave SW sustained approximately $2500 damage. Coover was cited for Reckless Driving and Failure to Report Accident.
On Thursday, 12-15-2011 around 1805 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 10 blk of 8th St SE. Jessica Lynn Langel, age 17 of Le Mars, had just made a left turn onto 8th St from Central Ave in a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. In doing so, she became distracted by an electronic device in the vehicle and lost control. As a result, the front of Langel’s vehicle struck the left rear of a 1999 Ford Taurus, which was properly parked and is owned by Tina Marie Gray of Le Mars. Langel was not injured and she was wearing her seatbelt. Each vehicle sustained approximately $3000 damage. Langel was cited for Fail to Maintain Control.
On Friday, 12-16-2011 around 0920 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of a hit and run accident that occurred at the intersection of 6th Ave and 8th St SW. Karson Wayne Klein, age 18 of Le Mars, was northbound on 6th Ave in a 2008 Chevy Silverado when the left side of his vehicle was struck by the right front of a gray Ford Taurus at the intersection with 8th St SW. The suspect vehicle then left the scene. There were no witnesses to this incident. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On 12-17-2011 around 1040 hours, Officers were dispatched to 590 Countryside Dr, apt 7, in regards to a domestic disturbance. Upon investigation, Christopher Auker, age 20, was taken into custody without incident for assaulting a 19 year old female who resides with him at that address. Auker was booked into jail on a charge of domestic assault.
On Saturday, 12-17-2011 around 1933 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on Riverview Dr. Alicia Jayne Ehrig, age 31 of Le Mars, was backing out of her driveway in a 1996 Mercury Villager mini-van when she failed to see a 1999 Dodge Caravan, which was properly parked and is owned by Rick Allen Singer, age 43 of Le Mars. As a result, the rear of Ehrig’s vehicle struck the left side of Singer’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On 12-18-2011 around 0951 hours, Le Mars Officers were dispatched to 1645 Sunset for an assault involving a knife. The suspect had left on foot but was located in the 300 blk of 18th St SW. Justin Erichsen, age 18 of Le Mars, was arrested and charged with willful injury and aggravated assault.
On 12-19-2011 around 2030 hours, Alex McVicker, age 28, 1240 Lincoln St NE, was cited into court for simple assault after it was alleged that physical contact was made with another person residing at the residence and that contact was offensive to the other party.
On 12-20-2011 around 1730 hours, Officers were called to Wal-Mart for a shoplifter. It was determined that Bradley White, age 47 of South Sioux City, had stolen a remote control toy vehicle and a HP computer printer. White was also intoxicated. He was taken into custody and jailed on the charges of public intoxication and theft 5th.
On Tuesday, 12-20-2011 around 0805 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 12th Ave and 12th St SW. Donna Mae Jonas-Langel, age 74 of Le Mars was westbound on 12th St SW in a 2001 Cadillac Deville. Blaine Richard Wise, age 17 of Oyens, was stopped at the stop sign on 12th Ave SW facing northbound in a 2002 Chevy Silverado. As Wise’s vehicle proceeded to make a left turn onto 12th St, Wise failed to see Jonas-Langel’s vehicle, and, as a result, the front of Wise’s vehicle struck the left side of Jonas-Langel’s vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Each vehicle sustained approximately $1000 damage. Wise was cited for Fail to Obey Stop or Yield Sign.
On Tuesday, 12-20-2011 around 1412 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 4th St and 6th Ave SW. Brandi Lee Ann McClain, age 20 of Merrill, was eastbound on 4th St SW in a 2003 Dodge Durango. Kathleen Mae Renken, age 69 of Brunsville, was stopped at the stop sign on 6th Ave facing north in a 2010 Honda CRV. As Renken’s vehicle proceeded northbound through the intersection, Renken failed to see McClain’s vehicle, and, as a result, the left rear of Renken’s vehicle was struck by the front of McClain’s vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Each vehicle sustained approximately $1200 damage. Renken was cited for Fail to Obey Traffic Control Device.
On 12-21-2011 around 1130 hours, Philip Briles, age 61 of Le Mars, was arrested after an investigation into a complaint of sexual abuse at Plymouth Life, 1240 Lincoln St NE, Le Mars. He was transported to the Plymouth County Jail and held. Sexual abuse in the 3rd degree is a class C felony. Briles is a registered sex offender on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.
On Wednesday, 12-21-2011 around 0830 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 3rd St and 3rd Ave NW. Jessa Louise Lewis, age 32 of Le Mars, was westbound on 3rd St SW and had properly stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with 3rd Ave in a 2005 Hyundai Elantra. Jeremy Donald Klingbeil, age 17 of Le Mars, was southbound on 3rd Ave and had stopped at the stop sign in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. As Klingbeil’s vehicle proceeded into the intersection, Klingbeil reported that the sun obscured his vision and he failed to see Lewis’ vehicle in the intersection. As a result, the front of Klingbeil’s vehicle struck the right side of Lewis’ vehicle. Klingbeil reported possible injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Lewis’ vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage. Klingbeil’s vehicle sustained approximately $750 damage. Klingbeil was cited for Fail to Obey Stop or Yield Sign.
On Wednesday, 12-21-2011 around 2115 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on North Greenwood Dr near West Valley Dr. Riley Joseph Schilmoeller, age 16 of Le Mars, was eastbound on North Greenwood Dr in a 2002 Chevy Silverado when he lost control on the snow-covered roadway as he tried to make a turn. Schilmoeller’s vehicle continued to fishtail on the road, which caused the front of his vehicle to eventually strike the right rear of a 2004 Chevy Silverado, which was properly parked in a driveway and is owned by Wayne Anstine of Le Mars. There were no injuries and the driver was wearing his seatbelt. Schilmoeller’s vehicle sustained approximately $2500 damage. Anstine’s vehicle sustained approximately $500 damage. Schilmoeller was cited for Fail to Maintain Control.
On 12-23-2011 around 1630 hours, a vehicle was stopped because the driver was not wearing her seatbelt. The driver, heather Cochran, age 24 of Le Mars, was found to be revoked in the State of Iowa for a drug related conviction. She was cited into court and released.
On Sunday, 12-25-2011 around 2250 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 1st Ave and 1st St NE. Christine Heather Majeres, age 27 of Le Mars, was eastbound on 1st St NE in a 2006 Ford Focus. Alex Mark Campbell, age 16 of Le Mars, had stopped at the stop sign on 1st Ave NE facing south in a 2000 Chevy Impala. As Campbell’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign, he failed to see Majeres’ vehicle. As a result, the front of Campbell’s vehicle struck the left front of Majeres’ vehicle. Majeres reported possible injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Majeres’ vehicle sustained approximately $2500 damage. Campbell’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Campbell was cited for Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way.
On Friday, 12-23-2011 around 0918 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 700 blk of 4th Ave SW. Thomas Charles Kurth, age 70 of Le Mars, was eastbound in the alleyway in the 700 blk of 4th Ave SW in a 1972 Ford dump truck. As Kurth attempted a right hand turn onto 4th Ave SW, he failed to see a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van, which was properly parked and is owned by Kimberly Ann Chancellor of Le Mars due to his windshield being iced over. As a result, the front of Kurth’s vehicle struck the rear of Chancellor’s vehicle. There were no injuries and the driver was wearing his seatbelt. Chancellor’s vehicle sustained approximately $4000 damage. Kurth’s vehicle did not sustain any damage.
On 12-26-2011 around 0222 hours, Le Mars Officers were notified of a possible intoxicated subject walking from Sunset Drive towards 6th Ave SW. Tonia Konz, age 35 of Le Mars was located and found to be intoxicated. She was taken into custody and booked into the Plymouth County Jail on a simple misdemeanor charge of public intoxication.
On 12-28-2011 around 0800 hours, Mike Anthony contacted the police department and reported that sometime in the early morning hours, unknown person(s) had thrown a piece of concrete through the window of a 2001 GMC van registered to his business, Anthony Plumbing and Heating, while it was parked behind the business in the 200 blk of Central Ave NE. Estimated damage was $400.00.
On Friday, 12-30-2011 around 0746 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of Business Hwy 75 and 18th St SW. William Isaac Noyes, age 26 of Sioux City, was stopped at the stop sign on 18th St SW facing west in a 2005 Dodge Dakota. Jason Eugene Uhl, age 37 of Sioux City, was northbound on Business Hwy 75 in a 2002 Chevy Impala. As Noyes’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign to make a left turn onto Business Hwy 75, he failed to yield to Uhl’s vehicle. As a result, the front of Uhl’s vehicle struck the left rear of Noyes’ vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Noyes’ vehicle sustained approximately $4000 damage. Uhl’s vehicle sustained approximately $3000 damage. Noyes was cited for Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way.
On Friday, 12-30-2011 around 2045 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of an accident that occurred near the 7th St and 7th Ave SE intersection. Sara Lynn Mayer, age 20 of Le Mars, was traveling on the roadway in a 2001 Ford Taurus when the front of her vehicle struck the rear of a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, which was properly parked and is owned by Brianne Lee Juhl of Cedar Falls, IA. There were no injuries reported. Mayer’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Juhl’s vehicle sustained approximately $3000 damage.
On 01-03 2012, after an investigation into a burglary to a residence that occurred on 12-15-2011, three juveniles were taken into custody and charged with burglary 3rd degree, a Class C felony, and criminal mischief 4th degree, a serious misdemeanor. All three subjects are from Le Mars: Nicholas Madsen, age 16, Jacob Kennett, age 16, and Saber Barber, age 16. All three were transported to the YES Center in Cherokee.
On 01-04-2012 around 0345 hours, Brooke Renee Kelley, age 20 of Le Mars, was arrested for domestic assault. She was jailed.
On 01-04-2012 at 1425 hours, Kody Waterman was observed operating a motor vehicle. Waterman was known to have a barred license in Iowa. His vehicle was stopped and Waterman, age 24 of Akron, was arrested for driving while barred, no proof of insurance and failure to have an ignition interlock device as required. He was jailed.
On 01-04-2012 around 1800 hours, Officers were called to #1 Maple for a subject refusing to leave. Edward Neville, age 47 of Le Mars, was located at the residence. He was arrested and transported to the Plymouth County Jail on a Plymouth County warrant for domestic abuse. He was held.
On 01-04-2012, Dave Ladenthin, 45 4th Ave SW, reported that five times in the last three weeks, someone had cut his Christmas lights and also threw a small rock at his garage cracking a window.
On Wednesday, 01-04-2012 around 1210 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of an accident that occurred in the Le Mars Ford dealership parking lot. Amanda Mae Janssen, age 29 of Le Mars, had pulled in to the parking lot in a 1998 Honda CRV and stopped as she noticed another vehicle backing. Ryan Edward Petzoldt, age 30 of Le Mars, was backing in the lot in a 2002 Ford pickup and failed to see Janssen’s vehicle behind him. As a result, the rear of Petzoldt’s vehicle struck the front end of Janssen’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Thursday, 01-05-2012 around 1500 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of Plymouth St and 1st Ave NW. Lori Jo Looyenga, age 46 of Le Mars, was westbound on Plymouth St in a 2008 Ford Fusion. Jonathan Nicholas Ruden, age 20 of Le Mars, was also westbound on Plymouth St and behind Looyenga’s vehicle on a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle. As both vehicles were approaching the intersection with 1st Ave, each driver had heard sirens. When Looyenga saw fire trucks approaching, she stopped suddenly, which resulted in Ruden’s motorcycle striking the rear of her vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Thursday, 01-05-2012 around 0942 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 18th St and Lincoln St SW. Kenneth Christopher Keane, age 35 of Sioux City, was traveling east on 18th St in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. Alex Richard Westergard, age 21 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on Lincoln St facing south in a 1998 Buick Park Avenue. As Westergard’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign, he failed to see Keane’s vehicle and, as a result, the front of Westergard’s vehicle struck the left front side of Keane’s vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Keane’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Westergard’s vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage. Westergard was cited for Fail to Yield Right of Way from Stop Sign.
On 01-06-2012 around 1210 hours, a Le Mars Officer stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing her seatbelt. The driver, Jennifer Brewer, age 36 of Le Mars, was found to have a suspended driver’s license in the State of Iowa. She also did not have insurance on the vehicle. She was cited into court.
On Monday, 01-09-2012 around 0827 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the alleyway of Rieken Trailer Court. Jamie Mejia Esquivel, age 42 of South Sioux City, NE, was northbound in the alley in a 2011 Ford F350. April Elizabeth Kiewel, age 35 of Le Mars, reported that the sun was obscuring her vision as she was eastbound through the parking lot in a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass and therefore failed to see Esquivel’s vehicle in the alley. As a result, the front right corner of Kiewel’s vehicle struck the left front bumper of Esquivel’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Tuesday, 01-10-2012 around 2102 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on 2nd Ave NW. Katie Ann Tague, age 33 of Le Mars, was backing out of a driveway in a 2007 Chevy Equinox when she failed to see the 2000 Buick Park Avenue, which was properly parked and is owned by James Henry Erwin, age 80 of Spencer. As a result, the rear of Tague’s vehicle struck the driver’s side door of Erwin’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Wednesday, 01-11-2012 around 0645 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on Hwy 75 just north of C-38. Derek Dean Krause, age 27 of Sioux City, was southbound on Hwy 75 in a 2008 Chrysler Sebring, when he swerved to avoid a deer that was on the roadway. In doing so, the deer struck the left rear quarter panel of Krause’s vehicle causing damage. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On 01-12-2012 around 1100 hours, Dustin Lee Suppi, age 25 of Le Mars, was arrested and jailed on a Plymouth County warrant and he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia for items found at his residence.
On 01-15-2012 around 0110 hours, Le Mars Officers received a report of a vehicle that had struck two other vehicles in the parking lot at 333 Memorial Dr. After an investigation into the incident, Lucas Abler was charged with operating without owner's consent and with two counts of criminal mischief in the 4th degree. The estimated damage to the three vehicles involved was $1400.00. Abler was charged in juvenile court and transported to the YES Center in Cherokee.
